Programmable boring bars and contouring heads add multi-tasking capabilities, such as turning operations, to live spindle boring mills.
The machine’s live spindle actuates the cutters. Because it is programmable to the required bore size, fewer tools are needed. One G&L customer reduced the number of tools he uses from 250 to 4 by using programmable boring bars.
Typical turning operations such as tapers, chamfers, grooves, threads, radii and profiles are all possible, as are complex internal part geometries.
Contouring heads, like boring bars, are programmable and are great for parts that are too awkward to rotate or when features repeat across the part.
