A second ram may be added on 2000 mm vertical lathes and larger, for 4 axis cutting. This allows simultaneous cutting of large diameter parts. You can rough turn with one head and rough face with the other. Or you can do OD and ID cutting at the same time. Both heads may be equipped with a live spindle, as is shown in the video.
